This Privacy Notice describes how we process your personal data and applies to claimants or other involved individuals in claims submitted under any DSM global or general insurance programs to the claims handling department of DSM Insurances BV. This Privacy Notice applies for instance, when you submit a luggage claim of your last business trip.

In addition this Privacy Notice applies to any visitors of the DSM Assurantiën website, private insurance clients and private insurance applicants of DSM Assurantiën. This Privacy Notice applies for instance when you visit our website, when you apply for an insurance, are already an established client or if you contact us for information.

In this Privacy Notice, “DSM”, “we”, “us”, “our”, each refers to DSM Insurances BV (or the tradename DSM Assurantiën) located at Het Overloon 1, 6411 TE in Heerlen.

This Privacy Notice only applies to personal data that are processed under the responsibility of DSM Insurances BV. For the processing of your data by a relevant insurance company (as data controller), we refer you to the Privacy notice of such company. This can usually be found on that company's website.

When we talk about “personal data” we mean any information related to you as an individual. With this data, we could potentially identify you directly (e.g. your name) or indirectly by matching that information with other information we may already hold.

Depending on the insurance policy you have, or on the manner you come in contact with us, the data that we collect and process from you can include:

  • Your contact details, such as name, e-mail address, address, place of residence and (mobile) telephone number.
  • Your bank account number.
  • Your policy number, and details of the insurer with which the policy is placed.
  • Information about insured items, such as the construction type of your home, the estimated value of your household and personal effects or the license registration number and weight of your vehicle.
  • Information about your claim or claim report, such as, for example, the extent of the damage, the date of the damage, assessments of damage by (medical) experts, assessment of the incident causing the damage and other parties involved.
  • The content of your communication with DSM Insurances BV, for example when you contact us by e-mail, telephone or post.

4. Why do we use your data?

We use your personal data for one or more of the following purposes:

  • To realize and execute insurance agreements and insurance contracts;
  • To execute your request for information or advice or to connect with one of our professionals;
  • To send you information about our (new) products or services, including regular newsletters;

  • To collect insurance premium
  • To handle insurance claims and to arrange for the settlement of the claim with our business or with our customers by payment in cash or in kind.

Access within DSM

Within DSM Insurances BV, your personal data will only be accessed by those employees who need the data to carry out their jobs in line with the purposes of collection.

Access by other companies

We may also share certain personal data outside of DSM Insurances BV and if we do, we will also take technical and organizational measures, if necessary, to ensure that your data is only processed for said purposes and under confidentiality obligations.

Unless otherwise stated, DSM Insurances BV processes your personal data within the European Union.

8. How long do we keep your personal data?

DSM Insurances BV stores your personal data for as long as it is necessary or permitted in accordance with the purposes for which personal data was obtained as described above in  this Privacy Notice.

For private insurances, DSM Insurances BV keeps your data for maximum of 10 years after your last interaction with us.

For claims submitted under any DSM global or general insurance programs to the claims handling department of DSM Insurances BV, you must consider that your data can be stored longer (longer than 20 years) because of lenghty limitation periods of insurance claims. If we keep specific data longer, we will do so to be compliant with legal obligations.

9.  How do we ensure the security of your data?

DSM Insurances BV handles your personal data with the utmost care. We have taken various technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure or misuse. We protect our systems in accordance with the applicable security measures from information security standards. In addition, we ensure that these measures comply with applicable data protection and data security laws.

Your rights include the right to access, modify or delete your personal information (unless required by law to retain the information).
