Mycotoxins, such as aflatoxins, trichothecenes, deoxynivalenol and zearalenone, are naturally produced by the fungi that can contaminate feed raw materials in the field and during storage. When ingested by animals, mycotoxins have a wide range of negative effects such as impaired reproduction, digestive disorders, carcinogenicity, and reduced performance.

About the survey

Since 2004, dsm-firmenich has tracked mycotoxin contamination in global feed supplies. Each year, we analyze a massive dataset of feed samples collected worldwide. This data is published in the annual World Mycotoxin Survey.

January to September 2024 results

Until September, 17 675 samples were collected and analyzed from 91 countries around the world, and the report is now available for you to download.

From a global perspective the Fusarium mycotoxins deoxynivalenol, fumonisins and zearalenone are most frequently found. Prevalence of mycotoxins and risk varies between regions and was the highest for North- and Central America, South Asia and China and Taiwan.
