Mycofix® Plus 5.Z offers the fastest and most complete zearalenone mitigation thanks to ZENzyme®'s patented enzymatic biotransformation technology.
ZENzyme® is the first and only purified enzyme that degrades zearalenone (ZEN) fast, specifically and irreversibly into non-toxic and non-estrogenic metabolites.
Over 90% of all analyzed agricultural commodity samples contain one or more mycotoxins according to the latest dsm-firmenich Mycotoxin Survey.
Mycotoxins impair the health status and performance of animals
Negative effects include impaired reproduction, digestive disorders, weakened immune function, carcinogenicity, hepatotoxicity, neurotoxicity and decreased performance—in addition to higher production costs and lower profits for producers.
In degradation experiments, ZENzyme® was scientifically proven to permanently degrade zearalenone.
The reaction of ZENzyme® is targeted, irreversible and immediate.
ZENzyme® added to ZEN-contaminaed feed detoxifies ZEN and prevents the negative effects in the animal.
ZENzyme® converts ZEN to hydrolyzed ZEN (HZEN) by hydrolyzing the ester bond of its lactone ring (Figure 1).

The enzymatic reaction is specific and irreversible and the resulting metabolite hydrolyzed ZEN (HZEN) is non-toxic and non-estrogenic.
ZENzyme® completely hydrolyzes ZEN (orange line) in a very short period to the detoxified metabolite HZEN represented by the green line (Figure 2).
HZEN is not estrogenic as proven by the E-Screen assay using MCF-7 estrogen-sensitive breast cancer cells (Figure 3). Proliferation of these cells only occurs in the presence of estrogenic substances (e.g. ZEN). Cells are not stimulated to proliferate with HZEN underlining its lack of estrogenic activity.
