Working with Stamylan® UH

Environmental impact

Stamylan® UH and its packaging is safe for humans and the environment. For disposal, Stamylan® UH can be recycled as a base material for less demanding applications or may be safely put in landfills as an inert material. CO2 and H2O are the only reaction products when Stamylan® UH is incinerated under controlled conditions.

Note: Additional national or regional provisions may be in force within this matter. Please consult the appropriate authorities in your area.

Processing

Due to its high melt viscosity, some traditional plastic processing techniques for polyethylene are unsuitable for Stamylan® UH.

Stamylan® UH can be processed via compression moulding and ram extrusion. Using these techniques, semi-finished products such as (large) sheets, rods, tubes and a variety of extruded profiles can be manufactured. Most finished articles of Stamylan® UH can be made by conventional machining techniques such as: sawing, planing, drilling, milling, punching and turning.

An extremely high melt viscosity also enables easy processing into porous parts by pressure-less sintering and gel processing can be used to process Stamylan® UH into sheets and membranes for e.g. battery separators.

While it is virtually impossible to improve upon the material’s wear resistance and impact strength, other properties of Stamylan® UH can be enhanced by incorporating additional pigments, additives or fillers—when homogeneously mixed prior to processing. However, it must be noted that modifications made to satisfy application requirements, may alter other properties of the material.
